Did you know that there are course work requirements in order to be eligible to play NCAA athletics? According to the NCAA, student athletes who would like to play Division I sports must complete 16 core classes during high school in order to be considered eligible. We can’t stress it enough that you need to get to know your academic advisor to make sure you are on track so you don’t run into trouble when it comes to time to receive a scholarship offer from a school.

DIVISION I REQUIREMENTS:

Earn a GPA of 2.3 or higher

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 years of math (algebra 1 or a higher level)
  • 2 years of natural or physical science (including one year of lab science if offered by your high school)
  • 2 years of social science
  • 1 additional year of English, math, or science
  • 4 years of additional core courses that can be a combination of English, math science, foreign language, non-doctrinal religion, or philosophy

DIVISION II REQUIREMENTS:

Earn a GPA of 2.0 or higher

  • 3 years of English
  • 2 years of math (algebra 1 or a higher level)
  • 2 years of natural or physical science (including one year of lab science if offered by your high school)
  • 2 years of social science
  • 3 additional year of English, math, or science
  • 4 years of additional core courses that can be a combination of English, math science, foreign language, non-doctrinal religion, or philosophy

Earn a combined SAT or ACT sum score that matches your core-course grade-point average and test score sliding scale (example:  a 2.400 core-course grade-point average needs an 860 SAT).
